In the 1980s, advanced countries such as the United States and Japan began to build aluminum-plastic composite panel production plants. Modern large buildings with silver-gray metal texture and strong visual appearance have appeared in the Eurasian land. Foreign brands such as Aruk, Reynolds, and Mitsubishi have also begun to enter the Chinese market.
By the 1990s, entrepreneurs in coastal open areas, from exploration and reference, have gradually matured from single-piece cold-press forming to continuous thermal compound production. The introduction of advanced large-scale production lines in China for the first time in the mid-1990s opened the prelude to the modern and large-scale production of aluminum-plastic composite panels in mainland China. The entire industry began to grow and expand in the process of introduction, digestion, absorption and innovation. In 15 years, China's aluminum-plastic composite board started from scratch, forming a production capacity of nearly 450 million square meters per year, becoming the country with the largest production, use and export of aluminum-plastic composite board in the world.
In the process of rapid development, from 1997 to 2001, the potential and prospects of the entire industry were demonstrated at an annual increase rate of more than 45%. In the competition with foreign counterparts, the leader in the industry, from 2002 to 2003, the export earnings increased 130 times.
At present, there are more than 300 aluminum-plastic composite panel companies nationwide. According to national statistics (all state-owned and non-state-owned industrial enterprises with annual product sales income of more than 5 million yuan), there are 204 aluminum-plastic composite panel manufacturing enterprises, of which non-state-owned enterprises exceed 80%, mainly distributed in Guangdong, Shanghai, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Shandong, Jiangxi and other places. In 2009, the industry's annual sales reached nearly 23 billion yuan, and the annual output of aluminum-plastic panels was about 240 million square meters, ranking first in the world, accounting for more than 90% of the world's total output.
China is currently the world's largest producer, consumer and exporter of aluminum-plastic composite panels, and the product quality of some companies has reached or exceeded the level of advanced countries.
